Teddy Parks is the “Head Trainer”  for the Louisville Metro Police Department in Louisville Kentucky . Below is an e-mail he recently sent to Randy

“Hey Randy.

Since attending your “Trainers Course” with Eros I have noticed a huge difference in his abilities.  He searches with a drive now that I have never seen before.  His alerts are hard and fast, and I am seeing the combinations we shaped in him.  Everyone has commented on it.  We found a couple of ounces of cocaine in a house search and about five pounds of marijuana in a warehouse search on Thursday.  I wish you could have seen him going into odor and working it out.  I have been working a couple of my problem dogs using the techniques we learned.  Obviously I don't have the boxes yet, but just the limited amount I have been able to work them, I have seen dramatic changes.  We will see what happens in the long term, but at least I feel like I have the tools now to solve these problems and it is a big relief!  Our boss agreed to send at least one person to your next trainers class, but I am pushing for both.  Keep me up on dates for this.  Talk to you later…

Randy,

Thanks for an excellent “Trainers Course”. I hated that the course had to end. It was really informative and taught a lot about Dog Training in general. Stay in touch.

Thanks again,

Hey Randy,

Just wanted to say Hi and thanks again for the great trainer’s course. I also wanted to tell you about a find we had a couple of weeks ago. One of the district units called us to search a pick-up they had stopped. I had to pull past the stop because of traffic. Once I got Norbo out of the vehicle, I started to walk towards the vehicle to start my search at the back of the truck like I always do. Norbo went into odor before I ever passed the front wheel, so I let him work. He worked the front of the truck very hard. He went under the vehicle on the driver’s side and from the front but could not get to source. Norbo then went under the truck at the front passenger side, crawled up over the front passenger tire and put his nose in the back portion of the wheel well. Now, knowing how big he is, I want you to picture his nose up in the wheel well with the front half of his body molded around the tire. Needless to say he almost got stuck. He then pulled himself out, walked around to the side of the vehicle, put his nose in the same spot and sat. When we opened the hood of the truck, directly above his nose in the back of the engine compartment was a ½  pound of marijuana. He did exactly what we taught him to do and pinpointed the odor just like it was the boxes. Thanks again for everything. I am starting converting several of our street dogs to your style of training and things are going great. Tell everyone Hi from Louisville and I will talk to you later.

  Hi Randy,

Just to let you know that since your class in June I've been working with Kazan on establishing more independence in his search.  I've been able to work with Vince Feltner since your class and I have seen improvement by continuing your techniques.

On Friday, 07-14-06, Kazan and I attended a training session with 5 other Bomb dogs.  One of the searches we had to do was to find a fired revolver inside of a machine shop.  The revolver had been fired three days earlier and was hidden inside of a pile of metal.  There were a lot of oils and fluids present inside of the shop.  Handlers with more experienced dogs started the exercise.  None of the handlers were told where the revolver was at.  This is considered a difficult search for us.  The noises and smells distracted the first two dogs and they were not able to locate the gun.

I noticed that the first two handlers worked very close to their dogs and experienced a number of false responses.  By remembering your advice to let the dog do the search, I started Kazan on the exercise.

I started using a ten foot lead so that I could stand back more and let Kazan search.  Well it paid off.  Kazan was the first and only dog to locate the revolver.  He did this without my having to step in, as I would normally have done, to assist him in the search pattern.

Kazan displayed more independence in his search, more that what I observed the other dogs do.  Needless to say I was only too happy to explain to the other handlers how and why Kazan did so well.  Obedience to odor and not the handler made the difference.

Thanks again for your help and I have strongly recommended your class to every dog handler I come across.

The class was absolutely great. I never though in terms of a dogs drive just what they would be capable of when correctly utilizing those drives. You have given me a new outlook on dog training and I thank you for that….

MIKE KAY --- VERNONIA OREGON POLICE DEPT

Randy,

Thanks for the trainers course for the On-Target method. Being what I thought was a good narc dog trainer with a clear understanding, Your method is mind blowing how much easier and better it is for the dog by cutting out all of the "Human / distraction influences". It is truly so much clearer in my mind for the dog to reach higher expectations by pushing past the distractions. Thanks for being an instructor that is truly there to educate the students that take your course. I offer my highest praise for your method, course and personal abilities as a trainer and instructor. Because of your course, I look forward to those Highway stops. As for my current dog Krueg. Krueg was a good dog prior to being introduced to your method, but know he is threw the roof. If that head whips then someone is going to jail. His confidence is thru the roof as well and is a completely different dog now. Thank You for giving me the knowledge to teach other dogs and handlers with this powerful system. We are currently working on our Grant dogs now.
Thanks again, and Tell Gina hello. I will see you both in Vegas in Febuary at the conference !!!

Sincerely,

Sgt. Mike Kay
