K-9 Importers to Avoid
By Randy Hare As a professional dog trainer I have been importing dogs from other countries for many years now. I have dealt with anywhere from 12 to 18 different Exporters from other countries such as Holland, Belgium, Chezc Republic, and Germany. I have gotten along fairly well with most of the exporters I have dealt with, with very few exceptions. I have had disagreements on price, quality, and shipping with a few but for the most part we were able to work out our differences. What I can not handle, and am tired of taking, is exporters who feel that you owe it to them to place or accept a bad dog from them just because they sent you a few nice ones in the past. Recently I had an experience with an exporter who sold me a dog that was later determined to have a bad hip. This exporter has made it clear by his actions that he does not intend to make good on his promise to replace this dog. I have decided to take this action of adding a Exporters to Avoid page to my website in order to hold these exporters accountable for their actions. With the Internet the world is a smaller place and I intend to forward this link to every dog site I can find. I no longer intend to keep working hard to keep a respectable business without holding those who do not accountable ESPECIALLY those who sell dogs to business in the USA. On August 24 , 2004 I was contacted by Mr Hofbauer who offered an excellent GSD for sale (see E-mail below). Upon purchasing this dog I became suspicious that the a stamp for the dogs hip was not present on the dog's pedigree (see photo). Upon having the dog x-rayed my suspicions were confirmed as the x-ray showed clearly that the dogs right hip was obviously not correct. The emails below tell the story of how Mr Hofbauer and I have communicated back and forth with absolutely no action other than empty promises. I finally gave Mr Hofbauer a date of February 1, 2005 to take some sort of action to make good on his promise to either replace the dog or refund my money. To date nothing positive has transpired which has caused me to take this action. I am urging everyone in the dog business to include a page on their website concerning experiences with exporters they have dealt with. Some exporters believe we have no recourse because we are across the water. Please review the information below and keep Mr Hofbauer in mind when you consider importing dog. Why did you not send the certification with the dog? Also I have had three different vets look at the x-ray and none of them had good things to say. Even I can look at the xray and tell that only 25 % is in the hip socket. There is no way to sell this dog to a department as their veterinarian will see the same thing. The certification you hold is not going to make this hip correct. The man from whom I bóught this dog, told me, that the x-rays are by the vet. He told me that the vet said him the dog would get --fast.normal--. I called the same moment an the vet and she told me on phone, that she have the x-rays and the dog would get a-fast-normal. I told here I would need a certication from here. I got this certiciation 2 days after I send you the dog. But the problem is on your side of the water. No piece of paper will make this hip look better. We x-rayed twice to be positive about the results. If you know the name of this vet...forward this photo to her and ask if she would certify this hip. As I told you before..this is not even close. I can not afford to call all around Germany to find out what has happened or to learn about what has happened on the bad information you received on this dog. This has to be done by you. All I can go on are the facts.. • I paid $3300.00 to purchase a correct dog from you • It is a fact that the left hip of this dog is displastic The only thing that remains is how our future business relationship will be defined by how you handle this matter. As a friend once told me.. "Good business relationships are not defined by how things happen when everything is going good...they are defined by how everything happens when things are doing badly." Sept 23, 2004 Hi, be sure that i am also very upset with this situation, but i told you before, that I called this vet what aboútn the hip and she send this certification to the owner what said, that the dog would get -a-fast-normal.. I thought I could trust this vet.... I will send you a copy from this paper but need a fax-nr. from you I could´t it send with the computer..have no scanner. Also believe me we will find a way to come out of this situation . You know I always send you correct dog and i will do this also in the future. I hope you understand what I mean. I was being more than reasonable with you Fritz when I asked you to make a reasonable effort to settle this matter by February 1, 2005 and all I received was empty promises. You made the mistake of thinking I would just go away..I TOLD YOU I WOULDN'T. As for our future business relationship, no thanks.
