Hosting a Seminar or Detection Dog Training School at your location

Randy Hare has traveled all over the United States and foreign countries to provide schools and seminars to those wishing to host either one. A seminar usually consists of three days of training at the host location and an “On Target Detection Dog Trainers School usually consists of three weeks of training at the host location. While Randy’s techniques and principals are growing in popularity ….so too is the demand for Seminars and Schools. The particulars for hosting a Seminar of School are as follows:

Seminars: “Three Day Detection Dog Trainers Seminar”

Usually three days in duration, randy charges $5000.00 for a seminar performed at the host location. A $1000.00 non refundable deposit is required at the time of scheduling. Expenses are not included and may vary depending on travel time, distance, flights, and other events held in the general area of the host. It is the responsibility of the host to collect Seminar fees and to advertise for participation. Once the deposit is paid Randy Hare will include the particulars of the seminar on his website at alphak9.com. All fees collected by the host over and above Randy Hares fees are retained by the host. Randy Hare reserves the right to bring or invite additional instructors or participants. The host must agree to provide an environment consistent with Seminar expectations. Inside climate controlled room with electricity, lighting, and enough room to work dogs (30x40) as well as an outside area to perform some practical work. Host hotels and events surrounding the seminar are the responsibility of the host.

Overview:

Day One: Powerpoint presentation and lecture on how the On Target Method evolved and the difference in traditional methods commonly used.

Day Two: Evaluating dogs for the practical portion of the seminar. Thos dogs passing the evaluation will be utilized in the second part of Day Two of demonstrating the use of the short rack.

Day Three: Putting what the dogs learned on the Short Rack to practical use and moving to the outside world.

REMEMBER: Randy Hare can not and will not attempt to change your dog or you in a “Three Day Seminar”. The Seminar is NOT a school and its purpose is to arm you with a course of direction to continue on toward the goal of improving performance.

Schools: “Three Week On Target Detection Dog Trainers School”

Randy’s popular three week On Target Detection Dog Trainers Course is an excellent curriculum teaching every aspect of “Randy Hare’s System” can be held in any qualifying location. The fee for the “Three Week Trainers Course” is $5000.00 per student with a maximum of six participants. There must be a minimum of four paying participants . The HOST will be credited 500.00 toward the hosts participant, or $500.00 per paying participant to the host without a host participant. Each participant is required to pay a $500.00 non refundable deposit upon registration of the “Trainers Course”. Fees for the trainer’s course will be sent directly to Randy Hare with the balance paid at the beginning of the course. It is the Host responsibility to provide a safe, climate controlled, and somewhat private venue for the course. Participants can be solicited by the host and by Randy Hare in an effort to fill the class. In the event that there are more than 6 participants or less than four, it must be agreed upon by the Host and Randy Hare to alter the desired number. Randy Hare reserves the right to bring other participants or instructors as deemed necessary.

Week One (Monday thru Saturday)

  • Detailed Look at principals of Traditional Detection Dog Training
  • Detailed Look at theory and principles of the On Target Technique
  • Evaluating dogs for the On Target technique and scoring dogs for training
  • Handling techniques and principles
  • Teaching the dog to make odor association while utilizing positive fight drive
  • Utilizing the reward to teach the dog to resist distractions and temptations

Week Two (Monday thru Saturday)

  • Shaping behavior by utilizing the short rack
  • Shaping the final response to either active or passive response
  • Teaching the dog to work independently of the handler
  • Using positive fight drive to advance toward an oral response
  • Adding additional Odors
  • Adding advanced distractions
  • Introducing the Oral Response on the short rack
  • Utilizing the detection boxes as a distraction

Week Three (Monday thru Saturday)

  • Finalizing the oral response and beginning of the Oral Game
  • Moving the oral game to outside and to different environments
  • Proper use of puzzles to strengthen the k-9 ability to locate hidden contraband
  • Moving to the outside work and transferring the dogs detection abilities to outside world
  • Moving the dogs to the outside world and the utilization of the 80-20 ratio
  • Practical Deployments in Real World Searches
  • Use and misuse of Patterns
  • Practical Deployments in High Traffic Situations
  • Final Exam

RULES:

Absolutely no photographs or Video Taping of the course, participants, and or procedures without the consent of Randy Hare.

ALL FEES MUST be paid at the BEGINNING of the course and before instruction begins.

ALL students and participants will conduct themselves in a professional manner.

Dogs worked in the seminars and schools MUST have the drive necessary to complete the training.

NO griping, complaining, crying, fits, fighting, or talking about other dog people during the seminars or schools.

Each SCHOOL participant may bring one K-9 to the school and possibly two depending on the number of participants.

Each SEMINAR participant may bring one k-9 and Randy will evaluate that K-9 for possibility of participation in the seminar.
